As an eligible veteran or spouse, you qualify for priority of service at all career centers. Our goal is to ensure veterans receive maximum employment and training opportunities. This includes:
● Access to CalJOBS job postings 24 hours before the general public
● Priority placement of qualified veteran résumés before non-veteran resumes on job order screens
● Job leads and placement referrals
● Comprehensive assessment of education, skills and abilities
● Work-readiness workshops and recruitment events
● Career counseling and assistance developing an individual employment plan and employment goals
● Job development alongside employers
● Labor market information—learn what industries are hiring for what skills
● Served on active duty for more than 180 days and discharged/released with other than a dishonorable discharge OR
● Discharged/released from active duty due to a service-connected disability OR
● A member of a reserve component under an order to active duty during a period of war/campaign/expedition, for which a campaign badge is authorized and was discharged/released from duty with other than a dishonorable discharge.
Certain military spouses also qualify for priority of service at career centers. Please note: The definition of veteran for the purpose of career center priority of service is different from the definition of veteran that applies under the Wagner-Peyser Act.
To qualify, you must be a spouse of:
● Any veteran who died of a service connected disability OR
● Any veteran who has a total disability resulting from a service connected disability, as evaluated by the Department of Veterans Affairs OR
● Any member of the Armed Forces serving on active duty who, at the time of application for the priority, is listed in one or more of the following categories and has been so listed for a total of more than 90 days:
– Missing in action
– Captured in line of duty by a hostile force
– Forcibly detained or interned in line duty by a foreign government or power OR
● Any veteran who died while a disability was in existence.
